D&B's First Annual Trip to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue Dogwalk for Charity

Sunday, October 20, 2002

Boomer & I made the 2-1/2 hour trek to Borderland State Park in Easton Massachusetts. It was worth every second of the long drive. Here are the highlights of our day:

As soon as we got there, I had to go to the potty. I tried to get Boomer to wait OUTSIDE the porta-potty like all the other dogs, but he refused and insisted on coming in with me:

Parade of rescue goldens:

Boomer had his paw reading done by Madame Bowowska. She said he's a great adventurer and explorer and he'll lead me to great discoveries!

Boomer flunks his canine intelligence test because Dawn can't follow instructions:

Starting the 3 mile walk - the entire 3 miles is Boomer pulling Dawn along, punctuated by many stops to look, sniff, and water everything:

Geese!

Boomer wades & has a drink:

"While I'm in here, I might as well go swimming"

Running because Boomer is trying to catch up to the beautiful sweet female golden ahead of us:

The scenery was gorgeous - here we stopped at a dam to admire the view:

After the walk, Boomer went bobbing for hotdogs. The 2 dogs ahead of us were too shy to stick their heads in the bucket, so their owners had to pick the weiner pieces out and hand feed them. When it was Boomer's turn, he ate every weiner piece in his bucket, then before I could stop him, he moved to the next bucket over and tried to eat every piece in that bucket too:

Unfortunately, this is where I ran out of film.
Next, we went to the food truck, but it was closed down and all they had left was one sausage. I tried to share, but Boomer got all except one tiny piece of bun.
After that, we went to have Boomer's pawprint done. It didn't come out very prominent, because he was extremely uncooperative.
By this time, the party was about to be over, so we said our goodbyes and returned to the Jeep for the long trip home. Boomer snoozed all the way home.
We had the best time - imagine a beautiful park full of hundreds of golden retrievers!!! We can't wait to go back next year. (see link below for 2nd trip).
